Visiting Tallahassee & North Central Florida

Relax, unwind, and make the most of your next visit to north central Florida. Plan your visit for summer or into the fall, and experience a wealth of top attractions, exceptional outdoor recreation, and a sterling selection of events. From Tallahassee to Starke, and so many welcoming cities in between, you’ll find just the thing to help make this north central FL visit a success.

Any trek through north central Florida should include some time spent exploring Gainesville. Some know Gainesville as Gator Nation – home of the University of Florida – while others enjoy some of the top racing venues in the state, like the Auto Plus Raceway, and the Gainesville Raceway. Whatever your passion is, you’ll find plenty to see and do in Gainesville.

Plan for an exciting college football game day in Gainesville – Ben Hill Griffin Stadium is home to Florida Gators football. This fall, they’ll be hosting seven home games. On September 3rd the University of Massachusetts Minutemen are in town, and on October 8th, check out the big game between the Gators and the LSU Tigers.

If you’re not feeling the college football vibes in north central Florida this time around, not to worry – make your way to Madison, directly east from Tallahassee along Interstate 10, and check out this year’s Hickory Grove Founders Festival. Held October 15th at the Hickory Grove UM Church, this festival is an all day party, with live music, a wide range of food and other vendors, and events like sausage making and butter churning.

If your visit to north central Florida has you in Crawfordville, be sure to check out this year’s St. Marks Stone Crab Festival. Held in the quaint fishing village of St. Marks, this festival celebrates the opening of Wakulla County’s stone crab season, which is October to the following May. It’s all happening this year on October 22nd from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the St. Marks Stone Crab Festival Grounds.

Swing through Tallahassee before your time in north central Florida concludes. Outside of some premier area attractions like the Tallahassee Museum or Lake Jackson Mounds Archaeological State Park, you’ll be in for a real musical treat this fall. See experimental pop band, Animal Collective, take the stage at The Moon music venue on November 7th. The show starts at 7 p.m.
