Visiting Pensacola & the Florida Panhandle

Florida’s bright, sunny beaches are a popular destination during the summer months – and because of the Panhandle region’s advantageous weather, you can bet there’s always something exceptional to find. From events to yearly festivals, cities like Pensacola and Fort Walton Beach are top destinations this time of year.

Each year, from April through the end of October, the Gulfside Pavilion in Pensacola hosts Bands on the Beach, a revolving weekly concert series held on each Tuesday night. The Gulfside Pavilion is a staple at Casino Beach, and is easily accessed from Pensacola Beach Boulevard – a short drive from nearby Navarre. August 2nd you can see the Hot Sauce Band, September 6th is all about The Blenders, and October 18th sees the Holly Shelton Band perform.

Sports fans visiting the Panhandle region won’t be disappointed this time of year. Head over to Pensacola Bayfront Stadium where you can catch the Pensacola Blue Wahoos play ball. From July 31st to August 4th, the Blue Wahoos take on the Mississippi Braves in a five-game series.

Further east along Interstate 10 you’ll find Tallahassee. Known for wide range of highlights – historical sites, college sports, and plenty of outdoor recreation – Tallahassee is no doubt worth a visit this summer. Don’t miss one of the top live musical events this season when the Alabama Shakes take the stage at the Capital City Amphitheater on September 20th. Doors open at 6 p.m. and tickets range from $57 - $79 – the drive in from nearby Midway is quick and scenic.

If your visit to Tallahassee is slated for mid-October, you’d do well to check out Wish Upon a Star 2016. This annual gala is hosted at the Goodwood Museum & Gardens on October 14th, and directly benefits the Children’s Home Society. You’ll find a bourbon bar, live entertainment, and silent auction – check it out starting at 6:30 p.m.

For more fun along the coast, head to Apalachicola, southwest from Tallahassee and Crawfordville. Visit this charming and pleasant city on November 4th when they host their annual Downtown Oyster Roast. Celebrating its 11th year, the Downtown Oyster Roast features top chefs from across the country preparing oysters and a bevy of other seafood options.
